How it Started
The Birth of Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer, Green & Edwards, LLC
Steve Taylor and Pete Burns have been practicing law together since 1981. In 1987, they decided to strike out on their own, creating Burns & Taylor, L.L.C. The two attorneys established a general practice, with particular expertise in personal injury and financial management.
At the turn of the century, the firm welcomed two additional attorneys: Kim Heckemeyer and Boyd Green. Heckemeyer joined the firm in 2000 after completing law school, and Green joined in 2002 after six years of practice in Sikeston. In 2005, the firm changed its name to Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer & Green, L.L.C..
To better serve their clientele located throughout Southeast Missouri, the firm expanded in 2006 with a satellite office located in Cape Girardeau. In 2008, Matt Edwards joined the team after three years of working as an attorney with the State of Missouri. Edwards became a named partner in 2015.
It was in 2018 that Tabatha Graham became a part of the firm after nearly a decade of private practice in Charleston. The firm officially became Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer, Green, Edwards & Graham, LLC in 2023. After over 50 years of providing outstanding representation for his clients and serving as a resource for many in the legal community, Pete Burns retired from the practice in 2024.
By 2025, BTHGEG has truly grown into a regional presence, with offices located in Sikeston, Charleston and Cape Girardeau. Known for its comprehensive legal services and strong relationships with clients and within the local legal community, the firm remains dedicated to providing trusted, high-quality representation across Southeast Missouri.
How it Started
The Birth of Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer, Green & Edwards, LLC
Steve Taylor and Pete Burns have been practicing law together since 1981. In 1987 they decided to form their own firm and created Burns and Taylor, L.L.C., opening the doors at the current North Main Street location in Sikeston, Missouri.
Kim Heckemeyer joined the firm in 2000 and Boyd Green joined the firm in 2002. In 2004, the firm changed its name to Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer & Green L.L.C. In February 2006, the firm expanded by opening a satellite office in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Matt Edwards joined the firm in 2008 and currently practices in the Cape Girardeau office, and Tabatha Thurman joined the firm in 2018, practicing in Charleston. With offices in Sikeston, Charleston and Cape Girardeau, Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer, Green & Edwards, LLC is truly a regional firm, providing legal help to people in all of Southeast Missouri.
