Kimberly (Kim) Heckemeyer focuses her practice on workers’ compensation, Social Security Disability, personal injury, and wrongful death law.
A Dunklin County native, Kim grew up in a fourth-generation farm family. Her upbringing working on her family’s farm and around agriculture helped her to develop a strong work ethic and an understanding that success requires long hours of work and a continued commitment to excellence. She is a 1993 graduate of Campbell High School, where she credits her love of reading and strong writing skills to the “amazing” English teachers who inspired her throughout junior high and high school.
Kim went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Mississippi (“Ole Miss”) in 1996. During her time at Ole Miss, she was an active member of Phi Mu sorority, serving on the executive board her senior year—an involvement that continues today through her alumna activities and lifelong friendships.
In 2000, she earned her law degree from the University of Missouri (“Mizzou”) School of Law, passed the Missouri Bar, and started her career at BTHGEG.
With over 25 years of experience, Kim has built a successful practice by aggressively advocating for her clients. She has taken on– and won against– countless workers’ compensation insurance companies, securing large lump-sum settlements, future medical care, temporary disability payments, and other critical benefits that were initially denied. Her work spans a wide range of injuries, including back injuries, carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome, and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
Kim’s representation of numerous clients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) has given her a keen understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals whose injuries are not visible to the naked eye, such as cognitive issues, memory loss, vision abnormalities, tinnitus, vertigo, and various other symptoms– many of which can be permanently debilitating.
Outside of her work as an attorney, Kim has been an active member of her community. She has volunteered for various organizations over the years, including:
- Kenny Rogers Children’s Center
- American Cancer Society
- Sikeston Little Theater
- Sikeston Youth Soccer
- Sikeston Youth Baseball
- Girl Scouts of America
- Boy Scouts of America
- Sikeston High School athletic programs
- Sikeston Swim Team
- Sikeston Rotary Club
She has served in various leadership positions, including serving on the St. Francis Xavier Parish school board and the Sikeston Little Theater Board of Directors. In recognition of her service, she was named Sikeston Rotarian of the Year and Sikeston Area American Cancer Society Volunteer of the Year in 2004.
Kim and her husband, Joe Heckemeyer, live in Sikeston and have three amazing children.
